The main factor of the advent of Renaissance is economic development. In the fourteenth century, Italy suffered an economic depression which affected patterns of manufacturing. The woolen industries of the northern Italian cities and have been particularly devastated, by the beginning of the fifteenth century, however, the Florentine woolen industry began to experience a recovery. At the same time, the Italian cities began to develop and expand luxury industries, including lace and silk, glassware, and hand worked items in metal and precious stones. As a result, the city-states of northern Italy gradually became the centers of Italian political, economic, and social life. Above all, the Renaissance was an age of recovery from the “calamitous fourteenth century”. Italy and Europe began a slow process of recuperation from the effects of the political disorder and economic recession. The most manifest phenomenon is that the recovery was accompanied by a rebirth of the culture of classical antiquity. Italian intellectuals became intensely interested in the Greco-Roman culture of the ancient Mediterranean world. This new revival of classical antiquity affected politics and art. Mentioning the Renaissance, I always bring Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael, and they are also representatives of Renaissance.

Actually, I consider the emphasis on human the most crucial element of Renaissance. As the Florentine architect Leon Alberti expressed it, “Men can do all things if they will”. During that period, a high regard for human dignity and worth and a realization of individual potentiality created a new social ideal of universal person, who was capable of achievements in many areas of life. I think the Renaissance produced an inception of people’s pursuit of freedom, especially mental freedom, for they disliked the pope’s control of mind.

From my point of view the Renaissance is a rebirth and recovery of the classical civilization of the Greeks and Romans on the surface, but essentially it has been honored the liberalization of human mind.

In short, Renaissance is a sparkle in human history.
